Summary

MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, a standard to communicate musical information.

Description

MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, a standard to communicate musical information (in contrast to sound), as defined by the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA). The standard is threefold: it defines a protocol (language), a connector (hardware interface) and a distribution format called Standard MIDI Files. For more information about MIDI, look up the MMA's http://www.midi.org website>. We also recommend George Hansper's MIDI http://crystal.apana.org.au/ghansper/midi_introduction/contents.html introduction.
